Did I get a scoop at Angels? Or was the coffee shop right on the money?

I got my haircut this morning at Angel's Hair Salon (next to the State GOP Headquarters).

Since Angel's is arguably one of the centers of information in Pierre, I had to ask - what had she heard about the lottery winner?

The word around town? According to the hair salon info, the lottery winner is not a Pierre resident, but a gentleman from up around Ft. Thompson who had purchased his ticket in Pierre. But then again, not an hour later as I prepared to depart to Brookings, my dad informed me that the talk at Pier 346, another center of gossip around Pierre, the talk was that it was a group of employees at a local convenience store who held the winning ticket.

I heard names on this stuff, but in the interest of not looking too foolish, depending on which story is true, I'll hold off on disclosing it.

Regardless, Guy from Ft. Thompson, or local convenience store employees. It will be an interesting test to see which center of information is to be most trusted.

All I know is that it wasn't me.

Rumor is that it's four employees at Chicadilly's who bought their ticket at Dakotamart.

It was me, I won the lottery. What am I going to do with the money you ask?
I am donating the money to a new State Agency in charge of screenig future legislative candidates before they are allowed to run for office.
Some of the questions they will be regarded to answer correctly are the following:

1)Do you have an ample supply of oxygen being delivered to your brain at all times?
2)Do you live under a rock?
3)Can you determine reallity?
4)Do you know where the State capital is?
5) Do you know why everyone in the State mispronounces Pierre?
6) Do you know that there are two r's in Pierre?
7) How many flannel shirts do you own?
8) feel free to add some of your own folks.

Can you spell?

Do you understand grammar and how to use it?

What are your political beliefs or do you hold a wet finger in the air and move in the direction the wind is blowing?

Do you think the answer to every problem is more government and more taxes?

Macgregor...

Do you always have to complain about South Dakota's tax burden? It's the 2nd lowest in the nation, you know? All the while we have the 35th largest per capita income.

Do you realize there are services in this state, and it costs money to perform those?

Do you realize that things aren't decided with a spit-in-the-hand handshake anymore?

Do you realize that we are right around the national average for family income per household? And yes, that does mean we have more two-parent workers. The highest in the nation, in fact.

Do you realize that a me-first mentality about taxation is going to just force the status quo.

Oh, and by the way, have you looked at Rounds' budget carefully and analyzed the growth in state government? It's all coming for pet projects. It's not going back to services that directly impact you and your family.

Does it really matter? Whomever won won't have to worry about former employers! They are going to be rolling in the dough!
