Bob on Bill
A perennial loser takes a swing at a winner who stumbled

I noticed that Robert Hockett of Pierre had a letter to the editor in the Argus Leader a few days ago.

Don't remember Bob? He's pretty obscure for even us political hacks. Sometimes labeled as a LaRouche supporter (He has been a presidential elector for him a couple of times), this is the same Robert Hockett of Pierre who ran for the legislature in 1998

I remember Bob because he had probably the most outrageous political ad I'd ever seen back in 1998. He didn't wage his political campaign against his opponent, Mike Rounds. He waged it against Governor Janklow. And he invoked words like 'Hitler' and 'Nazi.' It was pretty memorable. Memorable because it was angry, ugly, and had nothing to do with the race at hand.

His letter to the editor in the Argus was also to take a poke at the former Governor. As follows:
Janklow's license - Robert C. Hockett - Pierre
January 13, 2006, 2:55 am

What a glorious day for convicted felons. Just think, they now will be able to get their lives back on track. How can they not, given the fact that the Supreme Court has given Bill Janklow his license to practice law back to him.

Where were their heads when they made this decision?
Clearly he hasn't lost any of his love for our former governor.

I have a tough time with all of this Janklow bashing. The man is serving the sentence and is under the probationary period as set by the court.

In looking at many of the things that the Governor did over his career, I always tended to notice that despite sometimes being portrayed as bombastic and combative, he genuinely cared about people.

And I think our former Governor believed in redemption. The ability to atone for what one has done wrong. And instead of a rush to forever condemning him, detractors such as Bob Hockett should at least grant him the opportunity he had shown to others. Because if we don't allow ourselves to believe in redemption, then there will be too many of us who are lost.

Bill Janklow wasn't just "portrayed" as bombastic and combative he IS bombastic and combative. He feels he is above the law (long histoy of ignoring traffic laws) he ran roughshod over the legislature (ignoring the seperation of powers) and there are more than a few Native Americans who consider him a racist.

I'm not against giving a guy a second chance and now Bill Janklow has his second chance. But, he has a long way to go to prove he is a changed man.

I love it. P, you clearly have raised your "Pierre political junkie" status to the highest level. I'd completely forgotten about Bob. He was a hoot in his nutty sort of way. By the look of his letter, he's getting a little bitter in his old age.

I was all for giving Janklow his license back until he opened his mouth at the hearing in front of the SD Sup Ct. He was a "hero" for speeding to Spencer, but not so when he killed a man. And somehow he can't reconcile that... Fact is he's a grade A class 1 jackass. I don't deny that he propably genuinely cares about people, but how many things did he do just for pure spite?

EVIDENTLY YOU NEVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT WITH "BOB" TALK TO HIM AND FIND OUT THE TRUTH.

BILL JANKLOW is the PERENNIAL LOSER not Robert Hockett.I think Bill is Jackass for being racis against Native Americans. He should just keep his big mouth shut.Yeah sure a real winner puts down other races and talks badly about other people like there aint nothing wrong with his dumb ass.

Bob, if you're going to comment, please learn to spell.

why criticize spelling. let's criticize Janklow for his policies and his huge ego that does not allow common people to be treated appropriately. check his favoritism for his sentence compared to his comments of others who offend and who received harsher sentences for like behavior.
