Interesting moments in Rapid City Politics
If there was ever an opportunity for payback...

Until someone mentioned it to me today, I don't think I had ever heard this one before.

As I'm told, this last year in the Sioux Falls Mayoral race, candidate for mayor Vernon Brown (also on the city council) had an endorsement radio ad done for him in the contest by the Rapid City Mayor Jim Shaw. (UPDATE - I'm hearing that it was NOT Vernon Brown - it was Darrin Smith. My Bad -pp).

Fast forward a year later.... And the embattled mayor is not Dave Munson, who survived the contest, but Rapid City Mayor Jim Shaw who is coming off of a string of controversies, including his very public arrest down at the Iowa State Fair.

So are we going to see any payback? Will a Sioux Falls councilman do an advertisement for Shaw?

Or will Mayor Munson's phone start ringing with various Rapid City mayoral candidates asking him if he "remembers that ad that Jim Shaw did?"

Speaking of Rapid City politics, did anyone pay any attention to the Letter to the Editor in the Rapid City Journal on behalf of councilwoman Deb Hadcock back on the 15th?

Re-elect Deb Hadcock to Ward 2

With several hot issues encompassing the Rapid City area, I feel it is important for its citizens to be aware of those intending to represent them in the upcoming municipal election.

I am saddened to say that as a resident of Ward 1, I am tempted to write in "Bugs Bunny" for city council, as no candidate has come forward to speak on the issues or their plans for the city. I truly wish that I were still a resident of Ward 2, so that I could cast my ballot to re-elect city Councilwoman Deb Hadcock. During her initial term on city council, she has focused on such issues as Rapid City beautification, park presentation and safety, and infrastructure improvement.

As a working mother of four, I need a representative who understands the importance of safe parks and clean water for my children, while assisting the city with its economic growth. So when considering who to vote for in the upcoming election in Ward 2 consider this, Deb Hadcock represents and works for the people, because she truly is one of the people.

CHRISTINA SAILORS
Rapid City
Hmm... Where have we heard this name before?

So, it looks like Councilwoman Deb Hadcock has a steadfast supporter in Christina Sailors, the treasurer for Doug Hamilton's Elect Better Government PAC, which is in the thick of some of the controversies in the Rapid City Mayoral Race. (Even though Deb doesn't live in Christina's voting ward).

Never a dull moment in Rapid City politics.

Your information is incorrect. Rapid City Mayor Jim Shaw did the radio commercial for Sioux Falls Mayoral Candidate Darrin Smith, NOT Vernon Brown.

Deb Hadcock and Dusty Johnson should get together and talk about whatever comes up.

1:20 Call the doc, I can't catch my breath.

maybe he won't be a dusty johnson any more?

11:09 - does anyone have this ad to prove whether that's correct or not?

And 1:20 - you're evil.... sooooo evil.

Well, okay, at first I didn't get all frivolity. Now it is beginning to sink in. I can do you one better...Deb's last name is quite ironic since she took the place of a city councilman who turned into a girl...Sorry, couldn't resist!! LOL...will be interesting to see if PP lets this stand. :-)

The report says she resigned as of "that day" maybe she isnt with Hamilton now, ?.

Please be careful what you post about Hadcock. Per the Journal and the Weekly paper, it is known that she tracks down her critics.

It sure looks like she was when the letter to the editor was written.

She also said she wasnt "privy" to the bank statements,,,say whattt,,,,,,how do you do a campaign finance report without seing the bank statements ????

So she filed the original report without ever seeing the bank statements ???

This could explain why Hadcock is so vigously supporting Shaw. It's an interesting tightrope for her to be supporting an unpopular incumbent when she is in a race of her own.

11:09 is correct, PP. Jim Shaw's ad was for Darrin Smith - not Vernon Brown.

Off topic:

PP, you should get rid of the RSS feed to that Pigeon blog. First of all, it's a decent blog, but it has nothing to do with SD. Second of all, the most recent post on the blog is dated for sometime in 2008, so that post will remain at the top of your RSS feed list for the next 8 months at least. That's pretty annoying.

Just my 2 cents.

Emails are no better on this blog then (Schumacher and Kookier) were doing. Why? because no name no number is just gutless. Talk to ther person -- not a letter or email if yo have a problem go to the source. Now we have (Laurenti and Kookier) team. Whats's next maybe they can find more things wrong with our cityand keep talking about it for another (3 terms). Write your real name and number on these blogs, I fyou haveing nice to say or write nothing at all. Sounds like Laurenti and Kookier letter here by the way (BOTH are very good friends.

If you have something to say or write your real name and number you people writing about Deb Hadcock sound like Kookier's followers.

I agree with Brenda, why even talk about people if you can't saying anything nice at all. I have known Deb for quite awhile, and she is outstanding citizen and council member. Why would you even say about the person she replaced with her name like that. That is very cruel. You need to apologize. She never says anything mean about anybody. She is a very caring person. She forgives people even if they have hurt her feelings. Re-elect Deb Hadcock for Ward 2 City Council.

Sounds like instead of Kookier and Schumacher team writing letters. Now we have Kookier and Laurenti team writing opinions with no name on them. Open Governemnt Christian people --where not in these people.

I just want to mention we don't need a Sam Kookier and Mike Schumacher team on the council, and if we vote for Steve Laurenti that is what is going to happen. Sam and Steve are buddies. Sam Kookier is trying to get elected as Mayor so he dosen't have to work as hard. But he is seriously wrong. Being Mayor is harder than being on council.

I just want to say that Deb Hadcock, is positive role model for Rapid City as a City Council Alderwomen. She has eleven in her family, and nothing was given to her. She has earned everything she has. She works hard in everything she does, she owns her own business actually 3 of them. We don't need another Sam Kookier and Mike Schumacher team on the council. That is what we will have if Steve Laurenti is elected. Because Sam and Steve are buddies.

I was reading in the Rapid City Journal today (May 14) There was a letter to the Editor from Roberta Hansen. It irritated the tar out of me. This person dosen't know Deb Hadcock at all. Deb Hadcock's priority is her constituents.
Steve Laurenti works at Green Tree as an executive he works on High Risk Unconventional loans. He says he is for the working class while he's taking advantage of the low income people in our area. RE-ELECT DEB HADCOCK FOR WARD 2 CITY COUNCIL.
