GOP announces a bit of what's going on in convention

The South Dakota Republican Party is making their push for the 2006 GOP convention... Which I'm attending on behalf of Brookings county. I even managed to finangle my way in to being the delegation's Vice-Chairman. Which, if called on to do so, means I have to have rudimentary math skills as I might have to count votes.

Anyway, here's the release with what the State GOP is using as a theme for the 2006 convention:

Republican 2006 State Convention set

PIERRE – The South Dakota Republican Party is putting the final touches on its 2006 State Convention, which will be held June 23-24 at the Watertown Event Center in Watertown.

“This is a great election year and this is going to be one of the best conventions ever,” said Executive Director Max Wetz. “We have many great events planned for our delegates and it will be a fun and inspiring time for everyone who attends. I can’t think of a better way to officially kick off the election season.”

Committee meetings will be held at the Event Center beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, with the convention being officially called to order at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 23.

Delegates will be selecting candidates for Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Auditor, State Treasurer, Commissioner of School and Public Lands and Public Utilities Commissioner, as well as adopting resolutions and the 2006 platform.

On Friday, the convention kicks off with a luncheon with Bruce Whalen, candidate for U.S. Congress. The Governor’s Banquet on Friday will feature Gov. Mike Rounds as well as a 150th anniversary celebration of the Republican Party.

On Saturday, the Constitutional Officers will be honored with a morning breakfast and Sen. John Thune will be the special guest for lunch.

The convention will adjourn on Saturday. The public is invited to all meals, but tickets must be purchased in advance by calling the South Dakota Republican Party at 605-224-7347.
I'm told that termed out Representative Matt Michels will be presiding over the event, and Bruce Whalen will be the honorary chairman.

As recently announced in the news, the Democratic counterparts would be the duo of Linda Lea Viken and Pat Haley who are co-chairing their event.

And before we go any further, let's not confuse the power of team with the power of juicing:

Or the power of celine' (dang, is she skinny. Somebody throw her a sandwich).
Nor should you confuse it with the Power of Love, the Power of Attorney, the Power of Dianetics, the Power of Prayer, ....or the Power of Turkey to make you sleepy after you've eaten thanksgiving dinner.

No, this convention theme is 2006: The Power of Team.
____

I had an e-mail from one reader who asked permission to bring a t-shirt promoting the SDWC - he told me his idea, and I laughed myself silly. It was great.

What else? I promised Rich Sattgast I'd help him do "theme t-shirts" for his hospitality suite. In 2004 he had "the" theme room and there's hope to duplicate that again this year. It's all under strict security, so not as to tip anyone off ahead of time.

I might even get a few done for myself. I'd like to bring a few SDWC shirts, and I had an idea for one as a gift to one of the 2010 gubernatorial potentials. I'd do pins, but I don't know if I can pull those off in time.
___

If any of you noticed my noon post over unhappy Hughes County Delegates, as I understand it, it was a simple misunderstanding, all is well, and they are happy delegates once again.

I don't envy the people trying to fill slots and figure out who was in last year, and who wants back in and all of that mess. I guess thats why conventions have credential committees.
____

While I don't think there will be a blogger hospitality room this year as I had hoped, I will be bringing a laptop, and if I can find an internet connection, I'll try to do some blogging of the convention. I'll also have a camera and be prepared for lots of photos, as I gear up for the event starting 1 week from tomorrow.

Hurray! Huzzah! We're a team again! It rocks to have two guys in charge of our convention -- Bruce and Matt -- instead of that politically correct crap of male/female co-chairs. Just honks me off. Made me sick when our party conventions were run by pro-abortion softies.

People don't give a rip about being P.C. We kicked the crybaby bleedin hearts in the ass on primary election day and we don't need to waste time sucking up to bring them back! Good work. Great team. Let's play ball and throw the rest of the wuss Dems, liberals, and moderates (their closet liberals) out of office in Pierre. We know what they want.

Heres what we want... One God, one ideal, one party, one team. There's no turnin back now baby!!!!

PP even finnagled his name into the theme. Way to go PP! Why aren't you running for office?

Close. That would be the PowerS of team.

I preferred the Power of Blogs myself.

What a radical animal! I'm a lifelong Republican, true to the core since I was raised in the Eisenhower days. I'm probably old enough to be your mom. My dad told me the difference between Republicans and Democrats involved personal responsibility and minimizing the role of government.
Since then it seems we have been taken over by a women hating Bolivian junta. Women are repressed over choice. Your so called House Bill 1215 will enforce unwanted pregnancies to term. You passed legislation to allow religious fanatic pharmacists to refuse giving legal contraceptives to women. No doubt your next target will be to outlaw all contraceptives to women under 18 … and eventually for everyone in South Dakota.
Your Big Brother theocracy won't allow equal civil rights for people who choose same sex partners. Next you'll outlaw gay relationships. I'm a devout Christian with children I chose to bear and raise as a single parent. What happens in our personal lives is just that. Personal!
What a drastic change from the Eisenhower Republicans to the Big Brother Republicans who occupy the power structure in my party today. What a shame for the South Dakota GOP!
You are forcing good Republicans who believe in good government to go to the Democrats.
At their state convention, if the Democrats are willing to stand up strong and without mincing words to support reproductive rights and gay civil rights and oppose Amendment C, you will see the tide turn in Pierre. It will be your fault that you pushed moderate and liberal Republicans out of my party and it will be your fault Jack Billion will be the next governor.
Frankly, the Democrats' and Jack Billion's only chance of winning is to embrace choice and civil rights for all Americans. Otherwise what's the difference between parties?
Remember, you and your ilk drew the line in the sand.

Anon 612, one God? Which God would that be? If someone belives in some other God are they unwelcome in the GOP? If the GOP runs the government does everyone have to belive in the GOP God?

Between 6:12 and 11:05 it sounds like "team power" may be hard to come by this year.

Combine that discord with the low approval ratings of Bush and the Republican Congress, and the numerous GOP scandals all over the country (Ohio, Kentucky, California, Texas, Illinois, New Hampshire) and you have a formula for Democratic victory.

When you tailor your policies to the far right of the electorate and surrender the center to the Dems, don't claim you didn't see the tsunami coming.

Dearest Anon 11:05 -

Just heard you talk the talk. Now its time to walk the walk baby. Start walkin to the Dems. Your goin to find a lot of people over there who walk like you. Swishy.

The Damcrats don't have the kahonies to go prochoice or publicly support gays. They'll do what they alwys do at conventions. Sit in the middle of the road with the yellow strips and dead possoms.

At least we got leadership!

Another RINO whines. Another RINO can go.

"At least we got leadership!"

Yes, the question is who is in charge. Rounds/Feedsack or the conservative bunch in the legislature that has cemented its foothold and will drive the agenda in the next session. That's the battle to watch.

Anon 6:12 and 8:23 - keep working on your Ted Nugent impersonation. You're not cat scratch fever yet. Right now you're still just a pussy.
Anonymous said…
Who is Ted Nugent? You sound like another RINO or a Damcrat. Scat cat!!!

Anon 12:40

Sounds like the Dem's game plan for the past few years - hope Republicans can screw up enough for people to vote against them (as opposed to for Dems). Your formula for victory would be quite a bit better if you could add a dash of substance in the Dem platform. Give people something to vote for, and you might actually win some races.

Anon 2:37, you don't know who the Motor City Madman is? Good Gosh, THAT doesn't do anything to establish your credibility.

Anon 1:58,

Anon 12:40 didn't say anything about the Dems game plan. Just commenting on what the Republicans have contributed to the state and nation in the past couple of years. The Dems' plan is a topic for a different blog post.
