Even the politicos want in on the Hollywood action

Okay, I'll admit it.

I kind of envy the people who are going out for the casting call for the National Treasure movie. I had my own brush with celebrity when Kevin Costner was filming. I was working for my dad's security company (god knows I'd do anything for an extra buck) down at the Pierre Ramkota one night when he was wrapping an edit session. He was as close as I'd get with any other person.

And I'm totally lame, since I tell that story before I tell my story of having Lunch with Vice President George Bush.

So, yes. It could be kind of cool. But for those of you seeking Hollywood glory, forget Nicolas Cage, you're out there with Harvey Keitel. He's Mr. White. He's "The Wolf." He's worked with Scorsese and he was even in a couple of episodes of the original "Dark Shadows" series. Tres cool. So, I can't blame anyone that wants to do it.

Speaking of which, you might be wondering how this relates to politics.

KCCR News just did a story on Jae Csongradi (formerly of the State GOP office which she left for her current position at the Office of School and Public Lands) who herself is going out for a shot at movie stardom:

It may not actually be the bright lights of Hollywood, but for Jae Csongradi, it is still a chance to be in the movies.

The Pierre woman is headed to Rapid City Saturday to take part in a casting call for the sequel of the "National Treasures" movie, featuring Nicholas Cage, that will be shot partially in South Dakota. The movie company is looking for local residents to
serve as extras.

Csongradi says the parts will likely not include speaking roles, but just people being people in scenes.
Read it all here at todaysKCCR.com.

So Jae, good luck. And if you have a chance, get Harvey's autograph for me.

Anon 7:57 what you don't know what a "politico" is? If ya have to ask then i guess you are not. Unless you are really young and just getting into it????????

if all else fails she can still double as the Easter bunny at the capital again.
Anonymous said…
Is that a real name, or just a bunch of letters jumbled together in random order?
Anonymous said…
Doesn't Brock Greenfield have a sister who's an actress in movies and TV shows?
Anonymous said…
9:33 - it's real, and she's smoking hot.
Anonymous said…
She might be smokin' hot, but is the state paying the tab while she goes Hollyweird?
Anonymous said…
If her boss wears his nutty drugstore cowboy git-up, can he get in the movie too? You can use Ted Klaudt as a backdrop.

*I* know what one is, or could look it up if I cared...what I wanted to know is: What does PP think one is?

A) the Easter Bunny
B) any former GOP campaign worker
C) an employee appointed by an elected official serving as the office manager of a seven person office
PP said…
I think someone who had been a GOP employee who is now working for a political office would certainly fit the definition of a politico.

Thanks for the clarification, PP.

Her bio says she's "Director of Communications."

Is Bue Caskdhgakljsdg going to pursue a career as an extra too?

i too know this young lady and she is as fine a person as i have ever met. she has a wonderful sense of humor, is as intelligent as she could be and has one of the most outgoing personalities you will ever witness. lead on jae!
Anonymous said…
Your sweet gril from a small town of Centerville- better to have a small town gal in the scenes than to have a small town police officer with a DWI record.
Anonymous said…
very true. for what its worth...he voluntarily resigned some time ago.

Just a nice girl with an odd name from a small town who is being paid by the state to pursue her dream of being a movie extra.

Who wouldn't want to collect a state paycheck for that?

Her boss has probably arranged an on-screen appearance for her in exchange for free use of public land for the movie. He's probably arranged a hollywood campaign contribution for himself too.
Anonymous said…
As a state employee, I hope she's not collecting a state paycheck while she tries out as an extra for this movie.

She's been on the job for 3 months, and state employees don't get paid vacation with 3 months on the job. If she is, it's an example of special treatment. It's an example of corruption. There is no other word for it.
Anonymous said…
i am sure there is no special treatment or corruption. i doubt she would take advantage of the taxpayers in any way, and without knowing, am guessing she will assume any expense on her own. what is the big deal anyway? she would be an "extra" people! i for one would love to tell my children and grandchildren that i was once and extra in a feature film!

Jarrod will probably meet with the Hollywood folks to see about being an extra in the sequel to Brokeback Mountain. Maybe a fluffer.

What goes around comes around. I suggest you all leave your jealousies with Jae to yourself. A higher power will get you for having a serpent tongue. Way to go Jae!!! You go girl!!!
Anonymous said…
one thing i will say is you have a very proud mother, grandma, grandpa and AUNT!!
Anonymous said…
i guess some people just arent happy unless they have something or someone to whine and moan about. perhaps some of you were never taught not to pass judgement on someone you dont know.
Anonymous said…
AMEN!! To the last comment, I know Jae has worked very hard for her schooling, and enjoys her job at the capitol VERY MUCH!!! I'm very PROUD of her!!!! and this is just a new adventure in her lifetime (for a couple days) have fun filming. I LOVE YOU!!! MOM
Anonymous said…
I think it's great---have fun Jae! And from one state employee to another filming is on a weekend---is that going to hurt the state?
Anonymous said…
Only if she's receiving paid vacation after 3 months on the job, which state employees are not entitled to - absent special treatment and favoritism at taxpayer expense.

I don't think anybody begrudges her what she does on her own time. She shouldn't be paid while shes out there doing it.

Lots of A-Holes commenting on this post, PP. Obviously Democrats who hate seeing yet another Republican striving to achieve a dream.

It's so much easier to be self-loathing, venomous vipers without jobs who can blog all day long.

jezzzzzz people! I have never heard so many negative, self hating people in my life. All you had to do was go out there yourself.
SD is known for having people in films and TV Shows. I live here but was not raised here and I am amazed at how many people are in the industry or have retired from the industry from this state. Be proud of that fact and hope they can keep their home town spirit in the process.
As i said early Jae has always been nice to me and i wish her lots of luck.
I sure wish i had taken the change but didn't and that is my own doing.
GO JAE

Yes, Brocks sister has in in movies and TV series.
See SD knows how to bring talent!
Anonymous said…
I hope Brock's sister doesn't look like Brock.
Anonymous said…
Brock's sister is pretty easy on the eyes. I believe she's won beauty contests.

Whereas, Brock is drop dead sexy in his own way.
Anonymous said…
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Give it a rest. Jae went to the open casting call, as hundreds of others did, but has anyone heard whether she was actually selected to be in the movie?

And just as an FYI - there were other people from Pierre who are interested in being extras in the movie. Not all of them attended the casting call, but submitted info online.

Did the governor try out for the part of the indecisive, fence-straddling, do-nothing, self-aggrandizing lightweight?

With his smile and his purty mouth He'd be a shoo in!
