Someone isn't wasting any time on re-branding.

From the "Herseth for Congress" website. And, you can check out her appropriately re-branded congressional website (with new URL) at http://hersethsandlin.house.gov

Some married women only have one last name.

Yes, that is true.
I will make this statement;
A womens last name is important it is a part of who they are. That is why so many women of various ages keep or hyphen their last name.
The question is why don't/won't men take a womans last name????
Okay here it comes lets hear the comments now...
No I am NOT a feminist!

I find it interesting that the ad does not say what she is running for.

Old Guy:

The ad I see says "RE-ELECT"
Stephanie.

I couldn't agree with 12:00 more. Why do women have to give up their identity (ie the name they have had their entire lives)?

And no, I'm not a feminist either. Just someone who had a life and career before I was married.

how many women consult focus groups before deciding on which last name(s) to use?

changing your last name after getting married is a tradition, a way of showing unity with your new family.

I like the fact that she can keep her professional identity (Herseth) and show solidarity with her husband (Sandlin). I'd bet that her advisors were telling her not to change her name because it's an established brand, but she chose to both honor her husband and keep her own identity in tact.

How is this different than Marion Rounds running for Governor under the name Mike?

OK 9:52 - how does a husband show unity with his new family after marriage?

And thankfully, traditions do change...

For example, we've almost entirely done away with women being addressed as Mrs. Joe Smith. (however my grandmother sometimes still sends letters to me that way).

10:07, I won't dignify your stupidity with a response (other than this).

10:23, you need to call your grandmother and tell her how out-of-touch she is with the times. How can you tolerate such behavior by your grandma? It's time for her to step in to the 1970's when women became men and men became the original Castrati.

I wonder if Max's ex-wife took his name.

Hey, 10:58, did Guilliani's, Gingrich's, McCain's, Reagan's...you sanctimous ass.

Well said, 10:06. That should be the end of this discussion.

Fred Thompson wife goes by Jeri Kehn Thompson.

I don't have a problem with any women doing this in this day and age.

I love my grandma, and just figure at her age, I'm not going to change her :)

A rose by any other name would smell the same. Speaking of thorny issues, does this mean Rep. Sandlin won't be running for Tim Johnson's Senate seat? Will he be able to give her the money he's raised for his campaign if he doesn't run and she does?
Anonymous said…
Maybe Mr. Herseth Sandlin will run for Johnson's seat. We've already elected one carpet-bagger.

important to note the sign doesn't say US Congress on it. Is this the new Stephanie for Senate signs?

1:19 - You mean Thune? :)

12:50 - If she was running for the Senate, why would it say "re-elect?" She hasn't been elected to the Senate.
