KELO: Sutton thing to drag on yet another week....

The dark cloud hanging over the Senate is going to hang around for a while according to KELO:
A court hearing that had been scheduled for Friday in the Dan Sutton case has been delayed a week.

Lawyers for the state Senate and for Sutton were to meet in the Moody County Courthouse in Flandreau tomorrow, but after a telephone conference call yesterday, the hearing is being delayed until January 26th.
Read it all here. Can we just get this over with at this point? I'm as anxious to hear about it as the next person, but it's already been this dark cloud hanging over session. Another week does not do the institution any good.

Take heart, people: we could still get a Supreme Court ruling on this relatively soon...

What's sad is that I can almost gaurantee you that if Sutton is more liberal both KELO and Arugs leave him alone.

For some reason the Argus feels need to update this story every 5 minutes on their website. Is there really nothing else going on at our capitol??

I know our legislators work hard for us, so give them some credit besides talking about the same story (abortion, Sutton, or whatever) over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

If I understand right, Sutton has not been convicted of anything, nor has he been charged with anything... correct? So tell me again why the Senate should be able to punish him?

If charges are filed and he is convicted, then remove him from office by all means. However until then it's all rumor isn't it?

I thought you said he was going to resign, PP? Remember, he had 30 days left, about 50 days ago?

It's my understanding that the Senate is going to consider whether or not he broke Senate rules by not reporting that he was being investigated for an alleged criminal act. There might be more to it than that, but it would seem like they would have the right to take a look at that for sure.

Anybody else know?

They will also be looking at the fact that he might have broke Senate fules by sexual harassing an employee - a page.

Talk about long and drawn out. Why wasn't it investigated when it happened...during the last legislative session? Why are we dealing with it one year later? So far it is rumor, or is he being investigated and if so, by whom?

I'm guessing that there was a lot of scampering behind the (Sutton) scenes to keep this quiet as long as possible, which may be why we didn't hear about until months after the fact. Remember last fall when the story broke and the senate conveyed that they hadn't heard about it until the rest of us did? (I for one don't believe that but that was the claim).

As for an ongoing investigation...Larry Long made an interesting statement during a recent interview. When asked about the Sutton case, he said that it's his policy not to comment on any ongoing investigation. Read between THOSE lines...
