Political items - the Nesselhuf Hackey Sack

I had one of my friends get this to me - I'm now a proud owner of the "official" Ben "B.J." Nesselhuf campaign hackey sack.

It's one of those rotten campaign items that would cause me to absolutely bitch at a candidate if they ever bought and distributed them because of it's frivolous nature and limited impact..

But hey, it's still pretty cool.

In a liberal college town? I think it's actually a pretty good idea.

PP – I’m glad Brock got it to you. I know I promised it a couple of years ago. A little back story, my mother works with women’s craft cooperatives out of Guatemala. These are women who make all kinds of products to sustain their families. My mother has helped them form these cooperatives to increase the quality and price of their products and to help give them a market in the United States. (there is a very nice store in downtown Vermillion) It is a complete labor of love for my mother and the other volunteers. They send all the profits back to help with different community projects. It is an incredible organization.

During my campaign in 2002, mom was working with a new group who needed a project desperately. She suggested the campaign hacky sack and I just about laughed her out of the room. I thought the idea was absurd but, I had a little extra money and I thought, if it would help this group, I would order a few hundred. They have been so popular (not just in the “liberal college town” but also in Turner County) that I never order less then a thousand per election (paying the South Dakota sales tax, of course). I hate to admit it but mom was right.

Sorry....that anonymous was me.

So why not get campaign stuff from an American organization that helps people sustain their families here? Huh? Huh?

What the heck is a hackey sack?

Nesselhuf needs to realize that you don't get elected by giving out sacks - or even having a sack- you get elected by pandering to big money interests.

DUH.

Sounds to me like Ben's using a sweatshop to promote his political aspirations! ha!

Speaking of sacks, do you supposed Randy Feedsack was stunned that he was not appointed Ag Secretary?

Sorry. I must be feeling mean-spirited this morning! Ha!

the "original" merchandise was passed out back when he was "B.J." Nesselhuf..and instead of "Ben", they sacks said "B.J.".

I would say that it has more than a 'limited impact' when you pass out "B.J. sacks" to college kids. They tend to remember you.

BJ -

How much are they? SDWC hackeys would be nifty.

I believe that the last batch ran me $.85 a piece. I know that doesn’t sound like much but these women receive between $.10 and $.20 when they deal with a broker. These are the fair trade prices. It usually takes some time to get them made and shipped. If you are really interested, I can put you in touch with people who can make it happen. It will end my claim to fame that I’m the only guy in the state that can pull off political hacky sacks.

I am. Drop me a note at Dakotawarcollege@yahoo.com with the details.

Hackey Sacks have nothing to do with BJ's, just so you know. They are little beanbag things that soccer and rugby players use to refine their kicking skills.

Of coure, maybe if they get really good at it, and somebody is impressed, they might collect the occasional BJ.

5:57, you forgot one group of people. Soccer & rugby players and skateboarder dudes (who might ingest controlled substances sometimes).

6:11 Right you are.

6:11 That you Newland? You still kick butt at tennis? My guess is you weren't named Ag Secretary, huh?

Cool! Where can I get one?

Look what your blog has turned into Powers. 19 comments on a hackey sack and innuendos about blowjobs. Classy people read you Pat.

Compare that to the 2, 3, or 4 comments or so on a topic like medical marijuana last fall. Most of which came from Bob Newland, myself and few others.

Hackey sacks vs. medical marijuana. Again my point on the priorities of South Dakota should be well taken.
