If a clip-on tie isn't a qualification for Governor, I don't know what is.

From one of the readers. Thanks "R."

WIth that clip-on, either he's qualified to be Governor, or to greet people as they go in to Wal Mart.

Billion can slap on that clip-on tie so he's qualified to greet the cowboy that posted on this site: "hell yeah ... I don't want abortion in my state.... So go anywhere you want, just not South Dakota."

On second thought, they probably wouldn't let that cowboy IN Wal-Mart.

Right on, anon. It's just us hillbilly hicks votin' yes on 6 in these here parts.

Elitist.

I would hope you're smarter than the dolt who thinks the answer is to send everyone across the state line.

And who is calling who an elitist? YOU are the one who is insinuating that cowboys are hillbilly hicks!

I think this billboard is fun. Way better than Rounds' "Non-Results" billboards.

This billboard looks cheap and stupid.

If Billion actually does use a clip-on tie, to me that says he is a common man----not a plastic man like rounds.

I know a lot of "commen men," and none of them wear clip-on ties.

Jack Billion is a multi-millionaire orthopedic surgeon - Mike Rounds is a businessman who sells insurance and real estate. Who's the ordinary guy?

Clip-on ties, I find, are generally: 1) part of uniform, 2) cheap, 3) tacky, and/or 4) phony.

I think Jack is trying to appear folksy - but this is the wrong tactic.

Is there anything about a clip on tie in his website? Is there something more to this? It's certainly not typical. Republican or Democrat you have to admit that the Rounds boards are about as typical as it gets.

If Billions' board is phony - what is a politician with white teeth and a red tie standing next to a headline that says COOPERATION?

1:57 pm - A clip-on tie implies someone who doesn't wear a tie often, and I've yet to see Jack in a tie. He's usually wearing jeans and tennis shoes.
Maybe surgeons like to be comfortable too.

Maybe Billion can't tie a necktie. I can't and I know a lot of guys who can't as well.

I don't know, Haggs. Maybe not being able to tie a necktie is a sign of diminished intelligence, as it's not very difficult. Or, maybe it's a sign of laziness, since it is easy to learn.

Or (gasp), maybe it's just another attempt at a gimmick to make a millionaire surgeon seem a little more like an "average" South Dakotan. If he'll give "I like coffee" a try, he'll give about anything a shot.

I wore a clip-on once when I was 12 years old.

Good for you, 10:34. Why are we supposed to care about that?

Jack's a great guy, and an accomplished student of policy. Word is he's kept files on the issues in his home office for years, just for the hell of it.

The tie-dea could have worked, but the execution sucks. A pleasant photo of him in a tie, presumably a clip-on? Looking governor-ish, even?

Oh, well.

Now this multi-millionaire retired surgeon tells us in his latest ads that killing babies is the American way, since being against it is "un-American". I'm voting for Willis.

I don't need my politics coming from a $60 silk tie in a custom suit to know if its trustworthy. I think the tie thing is more of a figurative device and find the Walmart crack a shallow partisian jab at a guy you're having trouble smearing. PP, I think deep down you like and admire Jack but are too afraid to admit it bc you're now too entrenched in the "R" world.

I remember Jack from years ago and he's never been a slave to fashion. In winter he wore things that kept him warm, and in summer he wore things that were comfortable. It didn't stop him from becoming one of the leading orthopedic experts in the midwest and one of the most capable legislators we had in the 90's. Jack made numerous trips to a mission in Mexico on his own dime and did surgery on kids with club feet and other problems. Ask them if his tie was too wide.

1:57 - You think Rounds falling into a bunch of state insurance contracts makes him a common guy? Do you really know if Jack has millions? Maybe you've confused him with his car dealer republican brother. Jack spent his last years of practice as director of orthopedics at the VA - Hardly a lucrative gig for a doc of his stature.

If you want fashion, support Paris Hilton. If you want good government - Back Jack.

I see Rounds cancelled another debate - maybe he's too busy getting fitted for another blue suit.

Jack knows what he's doing. He wouldn't sign flawed legislation to float his personal hang-ups.

He wouldn't expose our state to ridicule and legal expenses and then try to distance himself from a bad decision.

He wouldn't wear a necktie - just to look cool - unless he needed to.

That said, he cleans up pretty darn good.

Perhaps there should have been a third candidate with a common man background in one of the two major parties....on wait, there was!!! I forget his name already???

worst campaign ads ever...

The other day we're driving down the road and my wife says to me, "who's 'jack' and why do his signs look so old?"

I do think it's funny though how people in these comment areas will blast Bruce for only focusing on one issue but have no problem with Jack's attacks on the abortion bill.

Worst campaign ads ever? I don't think so.

The purpose of political signs is to create awareness of the candidate. It caught your wife's attention enough to ask about it.

it catches your attention because it looks like crap! Billion has the worst looking signs out of ANY that I've seen. They look totally faded out and very cheap! Lousy design!
