John Edwards for President Blog? Nahh. Give me the Republicans!

I just got an invitation to join the John Edwards for President team. Thanks....I think?

"Live Republican or Die" me is going to pass on that one, but I will note it for the readers who lean towards the donkey.

You can catch the John Edwards for president blog at http://blog.johnedwards.com/

For my elephant loving readers (in case you need to cleanse the palate) you can catch Rudy Guliani for President here, The unofficial Mike Huckabee for President blog here, the Draft Newt Gingrich for president website here, the draft McCain movement here or the explore McCain website here, or read about the Mitt Romney exploratory committee here. Brownback for President is here.

A lesser known candidate is former Virginia Governor Gilmore, whose website is here. Duncan Hunter, a US Representative is supposedly talking about it, but if he is, I'm not finding a website right off. And the list is rounded off with the exploratory committee of former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson.

Check out the list as it continues to grow over at Wikipedia.com.

The big question I think we need to ask (for the sake of people who would like to go as delegates) - who's going to carry South Dakota?

Yes I am! Everyone should check it out!

But since you liberals might not make the effort to look, let me share with you a few of the things Senator Sam Brownback believes in: He wants to spread hope and ideas, he believes in justice for all, he believes in liberty, he belives the family and culture is under withering attack and that he has to stand up for the family.

Senator Brownback also believes in the culture of life—that every human life is a beautiful, sacred, unique child of a loving God.

And as Senator Brownback says: “God Bless you, and God Bless this nation we love so dearly”.

Al Gore should be our next president.

He already won once.

Edwards is a wolf in sheep's clothing, plain and simple.

Stop for a minute, and consider what he's actually done, and not his talk.

While many members in congress wisely voted against the Iraq war, Edwards not only voted for it, he co-sponsored the disastrous resolution with neocon Joe Lieberman, that made it possible.

Edwards also co-sponsored and voted for the massive increase in H-1b visas, that dumped 195,000 foreign workers on the job market, destroying perhaps hundreds of thousands of American tech careers.

Edwards voted for normal trade relations with China, making American workers have to compete with Chinese labor standards, which of course they can't.

Edwards voted for the DREAM act, forcing states to give in-state tuition (a subsidy) to illegal aliens, when there are poor Americans in these states who can’t afford to send their kids to college, partially because illegal immigration drove down their wages. This act, of course only encourages more illegal immigration because it extends even further the taxpayers obligations to those who break our laws to come here.

But what about civil liberties? Here again, Edwards voted to the Patriot act, perhaps the greatest risk to civil liberties, ever.

Edwards supporters don’t want Edwards to be held accountable for these facts. Yet, Edwards made himself extremely wealthy holding others (such as doctors) accountable - while doctors malpractice premiums rose so much as to make many obstetricians leave their specialty. More illegal alien taxpayer payed births, and fewer obstetricians - could that be why health care costs are skyrocketing?

One simple question - 10 years ago, if you did your job, the way Edwards performed as Senator, do you think he would he advocate that you get a big promotion?

Or do you think he would he have sued you and taken you to the cleaners?

What I get that scares me from you and Brownback is:

1. The Bible is the literal truth and we should base public policy on it.

2. Public officials as good Christians have a duty to spread the word, go forth and teach the unenlightened, including both on the local and personal level as well as in the international rhealm (our foreign and domestic policy should be driven by our view of the bible and its teachings).

3. Love the sinner, hate the sin but policy should be based on eradicating or removing the ability to sin.

4. The truths that are self- evident are defined in our beliefs and those don't understand or see what are the self-evident truths are either:

a. sinners
b. pagans
c. the unwashed
d. liberals

5. Government exists to further number 2 above and anything that doesn't meet that end should be abolished.

6. The free enterprise system w/little or no constraints is based on biblical principals and those who succeed are rewarded monetarily by success brought about by their faith and good deeds.

7. Those who don't succeed and aren't successful have failed because of a lack of effort or faith on their part.

Just the beginning of my list...

Sign,

A scared and tired of this argument republican who for one is glad to see Dave Knudson in leadership and not Brock Greenfield, Trent Lott and not Rev. Bill Frist.

Epp is promoting Edwards. Looks like Todd is angling for a job. As for me, I'm backing Rudy.

I'm an independant, so I'm observing candidates from both parties to see if there are any interesting ones. What I disliked about the 2000 and 2004 elections (the only presidential elections I've been old enough to vote in), was that I disliked the candidates for both major parties. It was like chosing the lesser of two horrible candidates. I went with the Democratic candidate both times because I thought Bush would be horrible at the job (which I'm pretty sure I was right about).

So for 2008, I'm hoping to see an exciting candidate who shows that he will actually improve our country by being president.

Looking over the official candidates, the only one who interests me is Guliani. Yes he's a Republican, but I like that he isn't a social conservative. Plus, I think running New York City is decent practice for running the country. And I grew to like the man because of all those times he appeared on SNL.

So far, I'm not excited about any of the Democratic candidates. I think it's a mistake for Edwards to run again. What's changed since 2004? Obama seems to be the darling of the party. While I think he's cool, I'm worried that he doesn't have enough experience. And Hillary pisses me off, so it would take a lot for me to vote for her.

Aside from Guliani, the Republican side isn't much better. I liked McCain from his appearances on The Daily Show, but I hate that he's tried to get in good with the nutjubs like Falwell. I generally dislike Newt Gingrich, but I read an interview with him in Discover magazine last year and I agreed with all of his potions on science. That's the one area where he's very progressive... I just wish he could be more progressive in other areas.

I'm sorry VJ, but I think Brownback would make a horrible president. He's defined himself as a social conservative and not much else. Being president requires knowledge of a multitude of topics, not just the handful that the social conservatives care about. Voters are wising up that the social conservative movement has no substance, so I doubt we'll see a strong social conservative as the next president. And I will personally never vote for him because of his idiotic stance on same-sex marriage.

2:40 Not bad Haggs.

Give Al Gore another look though, will ya?

If we don't heal the planet, nothing else
is going to matter one iota.

And you're young enough to have to suffer the consequences of our head-in-the-sand attitude.

"If we don't heal the planet, nothing else is going to matter one iota."

Actually, the only thing that matters is implementing God's will. We need to save ourselves before we save the planet.

And who knows? He may reward us with a reversal of global warming if we work to implement His commands.

So far, the only candidate that has vowed to follow His commands is Brownback.

Annon 3:59 ...and that's the difference between reality and fantasy, my fellow South Dakotans. At long last then, I Implore you... which side are you on? This is probably the last round. Your answer will make all the difference, brothers and sisters.
Is the health of our planet up to God, or up to you and God? I advocate the latter.

I was disappointed that Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour was not listed as a potential candidate for the GOP nomination. He's smart. He's articulate. He's unwavering in conservative principles. He's aggressive. He can raise money. He's a proven leader. And he's just pure tough and would wipe the floor with Hillary and her liberal agenda.

I'll just have to pray that he will starting thinking about the field and the possibilities for our Country's future.

Gore? What a joke. If he really wanted to let people hear him and his positions, why did he banish all reporters from his upcoming talk in SD?

Heads in the sand. How can you breathe? How do you sleep at night? God gave you the earth. You need her to live.

You, at long last, are neither he, nor she.

Wake up, Human. Your job is to take care.

Did you forget?

6:48 Because he's not campaigning and he's not debating. The points he has to make need to be digested, not diluted. Go listen to him.

6:48. Oh pu-leez. That's absolute baloney. If it were a conservative leader who banished the press from an event like that, he would be accused of trying to hide something or of not wanting to be challenged. What a hypocrite you are in attempting to justify giving Gore a pass from press coverage. But hey, they'd probably give him a pass anyway, right? so maybe some conservative SD bloggers may have to attend and report the REAL story.

John Edwards has been successful at everything he has done.

He's a 5-time Jeopardy champion from the era when you had to leave when you got to 5 wins. He's got the brain power that nobody would ever accuse George W. Bush of having.

Choosing to become a lawyer, Edwards became one of the best in the country - one whom other lawyers would come to watch and learn from while he was in trial.

Edwards then defeated an incumbent Republican senator in the conservative Republican North Carolina.

And he made one serious run for President before joining the ticket as the veep candidate. Like vice-presidential candidate Lloyd Bentsen in 1988 (Dukakis), he was far more popular in 2004 than the Democratic presidential candidate (Kerry).

Edwards has a bright future. That's why Hillary is telling people she's more worried about him than Obama. Republican contenders should be worried too.
