Senator Johnson has an apparent stroke.

On a very sad note, Democratic US Senator Tim Johnson has reportedly had a stroke.

As reported in the Argus Leader, initial reports of his condition coming from Congresswoman Herseth are troubling:
Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., was hospitalized today, according to his Washington office.

He suffered from a possible stroke, and was taken to George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C..

Rep. Stephanie Herseth, at the conclusion of a Sioux Falls meeting with board members of the Lewis and Clark water project, called the group back together around 3 p.m. and announced Sen. Johnson had been taken to a hospital.

In a shaking voice, she called on South Dakotans for their prayers.

Herseth said she believed it was a severe stroke.

Johnson, 59, had become disoriented during a conference call with reporters, stuttering in response to a question. He appeared to recover, asking if there were any additional questions and then signing off.
Read it all here.

Senator Johnson - South Dakota's thoughts and prayers are very much with you and your family at this time. We can only hope for the best, and for a speedy recovery.

It's also my sincere hope that for the sake of his family the media would knock it off for a while, and quit speculating as to his replacement and how it could affect the Senate. It's highly inappropriate when his wife and children are trying to get to his bedside. Concentrate on him getting better, not the kind of story you can turn it into. Vultures.

I'm sure the Senator will recover with flying colors, and quickly return to service.

Republican or Democrat. Liberal or Conservative. We are all South Dakotans, and we all need to pray for Tim and his family tonight.

Hardworking, humble and moderate.

They don't get much better or much more South Dakotan than Tim.

We wish him well.

He is a great classy Senator with a wonderful family. South Dakota is priviledged to have such a humble and hardworking man fighting for our state. God bless the Johnson family.

5:52 I certainly hope you are not from South Dakota. You have displayed a very poor example of the people of this state

While I often disagree with your posters on this site, as I am too often a partisan Dem, you always handle matters like this with a great deal of class as do 99% of the people on this site. It is appreciated.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Johnson family at this time. I continue to pray throughout the night that everything turns out ok. Take care and please...everyone...please pray for our Senator.

then today you have polosi talking about praying for the family. I love it how when one of their own goes down that they are willing to talk about praying and god but when it comes up to defend that right they won't do it. Typical politics.
I do wish Johnson the best.

I am amazed how many of the party of "seperation of church and state" have found religion. I am sure even Margeret Minkel is praying tonight.

Most people "have religion" already. They just don't beat other people over the head with it like it appears you wish to do. They understand that religion and politics are two separate things.

You seem to imply that if Minkle was praying, that would be a bad thing. It makes one wonder where you're really coming from with all your self-righteousness.
