Elli Schwiesow officially pulls the trigger on the District 32 Senate race.
From today's Rapid City Journal:
Elli Schwiesow of Rapid City has announced her candidacy for South Dakota Senate, District 32. In her campaign announcement, Schwiesow quoted Ronald Reagan, stating that, like him, she is "an ordinary citizen with a deep-seated belief that much of what troubles us has been brought about by politicians, and it's high time that more ordinary citizens brought the fresh air of common-sense thinking to bear on these problems.Read it all here from the Vice-Chairman of the South Dakota Republican Party. Elli - congratulations on making it official and best of luck from the SDWC!!
"My campaign is about ideas, honest, common sense, conservative, ethical and compassionate ideas," she said. "I am a conservative Republican. I embrace the principle of lower taxes and less government."
Schwiesow said, "I believe it is possible to improve education by directing more of the existing education dollars into the classroom. If we move from 58.6 percent of our dollars going directly into the classroom to 65 percent, we will put an additional $54 million a year into South Dakota's classrooms, all without a tax increase. "

What the hell does that mean? Since when is it the State Legislators place to micro-manage the local school’s budget. This woman doesn’t understand the very basics of state government.
I think Elli's idea is one to be explored. We need people who actually think of saving money in the legislature. The legislature and the second floor already have enough people devoted to creating new revenue sources and spending our money.
Even if she is tallking like a "typical politician". Are you actually defending adelstein ?
how would you describe how adelstein talks ?
She may have a fault or weakness or 2 but she will be a breath of fresh air compared to adelstein.
Good luck to her. Hopefully she can prove that politics can't be bought in her district.
Congratulations. You have officially found the worst argument ever for being against gay marriage. “Let the queers pay for my benefits but I don’t want to give them any money.”
Since when has discrimination been acceptable if it is cost-effective?
Funny how liberals are all for more government when it involves taking money out of the pockets of law-abiding and responsible citizens and putting it in someone elses pockets, but against government when it comes to protecting the innocent or preserving good order.
To me, this is a bad way to start a campaign. Right out of the gate, she's both pandering to undecideds while disavowing her base. She's clearly trying to contrast herself with Adelstein's wealth and business interests, but, was this a good way to do it?
I think you will be in for an education this primary season. There is plenty of room for education efficiencies. There are rational explanations and next legislative session you'll have a state senator who can explain them to you.
