Herseth-Sandlin goes on a junket to view the ice caps at Greenland.

Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin joined Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on a trip recently....
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and a group of House members are planning to go to Greenland and Europe next week as part of what her critics have dubbed the “Global Warming Tour.”

Pelosi will be joined by Reps. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Hilda Solis (D-Calif.), Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin (D-S.D.), Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.), John Larsen (D-Conn.), Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), and David Hobson (R-Ohio) on the trip, according to a draft itinerary of the trip circulating among House insiders and obtained by my Crypt-mate, Patrick O'Connor.

and...

Pelosi and her group are scheduled to arrive in Greenland on Saturday and after a tour of a glacier (we’re not saying which one for obvious security reasons), she will leave for London, including a dinner at the U.S. embassy there, followed by a stop in Brussels (and Berlin is possible if there’s time). Pelosi and the other lawmakers will hold talks with English and European Union leaders on the issue of global warming and what needs to be done, or even can be done, to counter it.

House Republicans are privately claiming that Pelosi, with this trip in mind, will sign off on a deal for the long-stalled Iraq-funding bill, but the Speaker’s aides say don’t count on it.

"If national security isn't incentive enough to pass a clean bill for the troops before Memorial Day, maybe this junket will finally provide the motivation to do the right thing,” quipped a GOP leadership aide.
Read it all here. And please join me in song; Kumbaya my lord, Kumbaya.......

Kind of a mother-daughter outing. That's sweet.

She is on the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming (as are all of the others listed, I think), so it shouldn't be much of a surprise...

If she wasn't on that committee, this would be a big deal. It looks like the committee is going to Europe to talk about global warming policies. Good for them. We can't be expected to solve this problem on our own. It has to be an international effort.

This is the real problem with global warming. If we pass regulations here, but no one else in the rest of the world passes any regulations, we're never going to solve the problem. The solution has to be global.

It's good that they're engaging Europe in the discussions. I'm sure Herseth will talk about exporting ethanol and biodiesel over there (which would be a huge deal for SD). But they ought to go to China and India next. That's where the real fight is going to be.

Herseth should fit right in with her European socialist buddies- far better than the good folks in Brookings.

European Socialist buddies?

Is that better than having west river Conservative Egg Doctor friends?

Get some new talking points

Gee, I thought global warming had already melted the ice caps.

Should they take a sailboat to Greenland? Perhaps that would raise awareness of the pollution caused by excessive air travel...

Great idea, 3:55!! There will be enough hot air aboard to keep the sails full without any wind.

Interesting that we just went through the coldest spring since the weatherman has been keeping records and these nuts want us to worry about a possible 1 degree rise in the temperature over the next century.

These windbags would do more to prevent global warming by NOT burning the fossil fuel they will use flying their jets all over the world at the taxpayer's expense.

Where's the outrage when Cheney (Aka Elmer Fudd #1) flies Air Force 2 around to go hunting?

Romney ("lifetime hunter"/one time rabbit hunter) is Elmer Fudd #2.

4:25 - You can't use South Dakota weather to justify thinking global warming doesn't exist. It's South Dakota! I've lived here my whole life and weather has never been normal.
Anonymous said…
Well, duh! Of course it's South Dakota.

And we are smack-dab in the middle of the North American continent, which, unless things have changed since I learned geography, means we are part of the globe these pandering politicos claim is warming.

Our weather here doesn't count?

Global warming is a Dem issue used to take away from other issues! Get those people scared and they will forget about the issues and promises they made to the voters.

They haven't done a dang thing! Except try to increase taxes and remove freedoms and decision making from the very people who either voted for them or those who are trying to hang onto more of their own money and to make their own decisions. If they have their way big government will contol all and the people "us" will have to lead like old dogs and cats or pay the price. The price is to high.

Sorry, i was trying to say "be lead like old dogs and cats".

Heaven forbid she would come home to Brookings or South Dakota and buy groceries like her constitutents.

Global warming is a fact, at least when Gore, Pelosia, and their ilk are in the area. Want to venture a guess where the global warming is coming from then? That's right, their hot air.

This is Gore's claim to fame so he can stay in the limelight. Never mind that he is a huge hypocrite on the issue. We aren't supposed to be smart enough to see that though. After all, he invented the internet you know!

When Stephie was 18 and she traveled east, she stayed for 13 years. Now she's around 36....let's see....she might not come back to the States until she's bumping up against the 50 mark.

We can hope.

What ever happened to the good old days of the 70s and the looming Ice Age that was going to kill us all?

Did Lars fix that?

The real problem with the global warming problem is that it's NOT a problem. It's a manufactured crisis being used as an excuse by liberals to gain more control over our lives. An increasing number of climatologists are finally mustering the courage to speak up and question the findings of so-called scientists whose livelihood depends on a continuing stream of government cash to spin another scary tale about climate catastrophe.

And before anyone tries to tell me corporate America agrees that global warming is a "serious problem," let me point out that most companies on the GW bandwagon have figured out a way to make a buck (GE selling wind turbines, DuPont selling carbon capture chemicals, Duke cashing in on its zero-emission nukes, etc.).

The other companies are basically negotiating the terms of their surrender, trying to cut a deal with the enviro wackos to minimize the damage to their private sector operations.

Global warming is a charade, but the sad fact is few politicians have the cojones to speak the truth.

So go ahead and vote for global warming laws, Stephanie. Sioux Falls is way too hot in January!

The real problem with the global warming problem is that it's NOT a problem.

I for one would love to have my acreage become "beach front" property. It WON'T happen, but it's a nice thought. Global Warming, it's a GOOD thing!

Having lived through the Global COOLING scare, I'll take my chances with Global WARMING.

There's certainly more pressing concerns to consider. Some we MIGHT even be able to do something about...

You got it, William. When will people stop to think that the enviro wingnuts are talking about controlling the weather?

For those who think a "solution" would be cheap, check out this article ...

Global Warming Reduced, at what cost?

The most radical bills like Barbara Boxer, Governor Ahhhnold (and sadly John McCain) are advocating would double your electric bill and add $1.00 to the price of gas.
Anonymous said…
A strong majority of Americans embrace the idea that global warming is a real and serious problem.

Also a majority reject the argument that taking action is too costly and are optimistic that in the long run reducing greenhouse gas emissions will actually benefit the economy by increasing efficiency.

Herseth is very smart for taking part in this committee.

1:17 ANON. Those who believe this would have more credibility if they lived the life they are advocating. And buying offset carbon credits just doesn't do it, Al. Sorry.

Why doesn't she go on a junket up to Alaska's Northern slope to see how unthreatening pumping our own oil is. Sure would be a good way to keep gas prices down. The only South Dakotan who is in Congress that has gone on that one it Senator Thune.

Anon 1:17 - a "strong majority" of Americans are being duped by the United Nations, including you apparently.

Scientists are moderately well-convinced that the planet is not currently as cool as it was in the Little Ice Age, which ended around 1850. We know atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are rising as they do after every cool period and humans are probably helping this to occur.

Carbon dioxide now comprises .038% of our atmosphere, and it may climb as high as .050% by the end of the century.

Upon this an entire disaster industry is built, for which we will pay trillions unless people open their eyes.

It's fun to draw the parallels between the Iraq war and global warming.

The Iraq war was a fake problem (proven)
Global warming may be a fake problem (jury is still out)

The cost of the Iraq war will possibly be in the trillions
The cost of fixing global warming may be in the trillions

The Iraq war is a hoax and was justified by a lie
Global warming may be a hoax and may be justified by a lie
