the photo is missing all of Stepahnie's staffers/peasants who are carrying her extra suitcases of shoes for dancing in Berlin discoteques. The Chevy Lounge in her "hometown" of Brookings just doesn't cut it anymore.

Wow, I've been a regular reader of this blog for several years. This is the silliest thing I've seen yet. Come on guys, in case you don't know it, one of the common stereotypes of the SD GOP party is that we're all a bunch of redneck hillbillies. You're pretty much proving that with this type of stuff.
God forbid our congresswoman actually travel somewhere. Why would we want a decision maker having perspective on the world? The lack of world perspective from our leaders has cost us a lot in recent years and very well could be the downfall of our party in years to come.

I don't consider any of this joking around as redneck. We've got to take our humor where we find it sometimes!

I have a big complaint with junkets taken by politicians at my expense, simply because they all abuse it and there's nothing I can do to stop it. The only ones that can are they themselves, and I won't hold my breath waiting for that.

PP - do you still stand by your statement that Herseth-Sandlin took staff with her on this trip?

I see your minions are now saying that there were multimple staffers on the trip (i.e. "all of Stepahnie's staffers/peasants who are carrying her extra suitcases...").

So do you stand by your assertion that that her Chief of Staff (and/or other members of her staff) accompanied her on the trip?

You started the rumor, you're letting it fester on your site, and I assume you'll take full responsibility if it turns out not to be true -- including correcting people like 9:49pm.

Anon 11:14 is right on the money. The postings about hairstyle and staff don't rise to the level of Ron Marr's whinings about Hilary Clinton. Not even to that level, and he called his own tripe a fish wrapper. That said, how about the point? SCOTUS has ordered that the administration address carbon emissions, Bush has said he will do so (albeit in the last month of his administration), so what is so bad about a congresswoman educating herself about it? Again, anon 11:14 comes to mind--you guys are all hillbillies who love to repeat yourselves to each other, then nod in agreement. Even when your observations are nothing more than vapid sarcasm that wouldn't make The Onion back pages.

Ted is going to get the full investigation he deserves, and might spend the rest of his life behind bars. And I don't recall I've take issue with that.

This post is about Herseth and her travels. Not ted. Unfortunately, we'll be talking about him for a long time coming.

As the only South Dakota blogger out with 5 daughters, I feel I need to weigh in on the whole discussion that's occurring with regards to the HPV vaccine, and Governor Rounds' proposal to make it available. My family (including my three oldest girls) watched my mom, their grandmother, succumb slowly and painfully to cancer which spread throughout her body. If a similar fate from a different type of cancer was preventable through a simple shot, why wouldn't anyone advocate for it? At the age most of my kids are going to be getting it, they're still playing with barbies, and negative influences such as most of the programming on MTV, and other assorted trashy television is verboten in my house. All they're going to know about this vaccination is that it's a shot, just like for teatnus or measles. They'll go "Ow, I don't want a shot," and that will be it. Just another mark on their vaccination record. One check box for DPT, one for HPV, and so on...

State Senator - Herseth emboldens the enemy

On the eve of her wedding, State Senator Orv Smidt writes to the Argus Leader condemning Congresswoman Herseth for her actions on the Iraq funding bill - calling them "emboldening to the enemy:" I ask you to consider how Herseth has gotten to be such an expert that she can deny the commander-in-chief, the Defense Department, the Secretary of State and our brave soldiers the resources they need to fight and win in Iraq? Why it is OK to embolden our enemy by publishing a timetable for withdrawal? I was once a soldier in Vietnam. The actions by our political leaders of the time told me that my service to our country was not appreciated. and... Our brave soldiers in Iraq don't want to hear that either. Go read it all here . Considering (as a Brookings residnt) he's her State Senator in Pierre, this is particularly stinging.
