The KKK's Retirement Center?

Top of the news this morning in the Pierre Capital Journal was an article about the Pierre Senior Citizens Center which was…. Well, let'’s just say they'’re not going to be winning very many awards on their multicultural awareness programs as related from this article (that was front page above the fold):
The Pierre Area Senior Citizens Center's most recent newsletter contained notes from the Aug. 22 Board of Directors meeting, the September calendar and a tip from the attorney general about door-to-door meat salesmen.

The newsletter also published an item, placed under the list of September birthdays and kitchen supervisors, that has drawn some criticism:

"Towel Heads - Recently I received a warning about the use of this politically incorrect term, so please note. We all need to be more sensitive in our choice of words. I have been informed that the Islamic terrorists who hate our guts and want to kill us do not like to be called 'towel heads' since the item they wear on their heads is not actually a towel, but in fact, a small, folded sheet. Therefore, from this point forward, please refer to them as 'little sheet heads.' Thank you for your support and compliance on this delicate matter."

Pierre Area Senior Citizens Center Coordinator Jerry Tibbs, who compiles the newsletter, said that the write-up was given to him by one of the center's members. He does not recall who gave it to him.

"I just accumulate (write-ups) and pull them out and use them when I need to," Tibbs said.
Holy crap. Read it all here. Someone actually put that in print in a newsletter?

Apparently they must reminisce about the good old days before they were made to stop wearing those white robes with the pointy sheets over their heads.

What's going to be next? A menu of fried chicken and watermelon on Martin Luther King Day at the senior center? Or should we hope for Lucky Charms on St. Patrick's Day?

Nothing like spicing up the Pierre Senior Center. Have they moved Janklow in there already?

What's the matter with having Lucky Charms on St. Patrick's Day - other than that the stuff tastes terrible? ;-)

Not that I necessarily condone this choice of words, but don't you think that political correctness has gone just a tad (actually way past a tad) off the deep end?

I think the joke is hilarious!! Does that make me a bad, bad person? Should I apologize to the first terrorist I meet for hurting his feelings?

For pete's sake - laugh a little PP. It's good for you.

PP you are condemming them for the use of 'towel heads' or more correctely 'sheet heads', which I believe was a joke because I've seen it on the internet. But then you turn around and accuse them of wearing white robes, which they don't, and being members of KKK, which they aren't.

I think the correct term for you is hypocrite. Enough of this political correctness.

Not all Arabs are terrorists you racist idiots.

"Not all Arabs are terrorists you racist idiots."

After the atrocities Islamic terrorists have committed against our country over the last decade, while their compatriots at home remain silent, it's hard not to lump them all together.

Maybe you can separate the good ones from the bad ones, but you can't blame the rest of us for developing an aversion to ALL Arabs. If that’s racism, so be it.

The propaganda has been making us hate arabs for decades...this war in the middle east has been being commercialized for just as long. The good ol' boys at PNAC have been preparing ALL Americans for this consolidation of world power and helping the sentiment grow for this World War III that we are now in...watch the above video and you'll get the idea

I think there's difference between 'political correctness gone too far' and having an issue with something that's pretty clearly (if unintentionally) racist.

I think if both PP and lexrex recognize the issue with it, it's not just liberal sensitivity.

I'm not a big fan of political correctness but that was totally out of line.

Yet another reason to be embarrassed to say I am from South Dakota.
