Quote of the day

One of the readers sent in this quote in regards to the recent spate of nanny-isms that the legislature was trying to pass this past legislative session:
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its
victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber
barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may
sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who
torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the
approval of their own conscience."

C.S. Lewis

Wise words indeed.

Another quote by another famous Lewis (Sinclair Lewis in this case):

"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."

The Nanny state is the first step towards a fascist government…and sadly the party I love seems complacent in it. I wish it was just the Democrats, but it’s us. We have false or overhyped patriotism (I’m sorry…you can’t support the troops and cut veteran’s benefits at the same time). We have leaders of both parties going out of their way to show how “religious” they are (where great leaders of our party used to keep their religion to themselves). We have our freedoms being taken away all to “Protect” us. There is no way that this is right.

PP,

I'm glad you agree that the Patriot Act is an oppressive and subversive law needing to be repealed immediately. Certainly it is a far worse example of Lewis' quote than child seat restraints????
