A crazy night before the madness of the primary election of the beast (6/6/06)
What a night. I start it by going out to mow the lawn, and it ramps up from there.
I got no fewer than 2 phone calls and three or four e-mails about the explosive edition of David J. Law on KWAT's Whats Up program this morning. Apparently the Stan Adelstein PAC ctivity didn't go unnoticed by Senate President Pro Temp, Lee Schoenbeck. Lee called in and let loose with the information on where some of the candidates had gotten their money, including his former primary adversary Claire Konold and District 6 Challenger Jim Holbeck.
From there, callers started asking who else had gotten funding from Stan, and it all went downhill from there.
After a baloney sandwich for dinner, I started to do research on the races, and decided the best prep for tomorrow night was rest and relaxation. I'm a bundle of nerves as we get down to the wire. Despite the fact the two candidates I'm directly helping have it well in hand, I'm sure they're sick of me calling checking in to see if they need anything, finding out how it's going, and cheecking on the feedback they're getting from the community.
In the process of popping in a movie for my R&R, I promptly fell asleep in front of the TV at 8 p.m. while watching the classic environmental drama "Godzilla versus the Smog Monster." Just like professional wrestling, it's a guilty pleasure from my childhood. Put me out like a light.
After I woke up at 9:30, I went to check my e-mail before I went to bed for real, and found my entire installation of Microsoft office had crashed. And as I'm writing this, I'm still trying to get my mail back up before I dump everything and start from scratch. (I'm currently on my 4th failed attempt).
There are still so many races that most people don't want to call the election on. Stan versus Elli, Sutton versus Lattrell, Schmidt versus Duniphan; It's going to be a wild roller coaster ride of an evening. With so many undecided, it's a testament to the fact that the GOP has such strong candidates waiting in the wings for a chance to lead.
Taking on an incumbent and bringing them to their knees (in an electoral fashion) is NOT an easy task. And yet here's three candidates who have the drive and ability to do just that.
And it's not just them. The party is going to be fielding other strong candidates such as Brian Johnson, Russ Olson, Kim Vanneman, Dave Novstrup, and Katy Dressen as we move into the fall election.
Whether the challengers win or lose, I think the future is looking pretty bright for the GOP.

PP, how about doing a little more digging.
If Schoenbeck took PAC money last year, what is he going to do with it, pocket it?
He decieded not to run for re-election. Maybe he is trying to build a nest egg to run for Gov in four years.
Either way, he's being a hypocrit. It's OK for him to take PAC money, but if anyone else does, especially from Adelstein, your bought and paid for.
You can't have it both ways!
Get an Apple and free yourself from the Microsoft monster. You really will have fewer problems.
I've got to go vote for Jack Billion now.
The issue is that it's all coming out of Stan's pocket in an abuse of financial contribution laws.
Why does he need to fund 3 pacs to get his candidates elected?
Thanks, dude!

Look at the PAC reports, most of the money come from just a few individual in large amounts. The average Joe doen't donate to PACs, they write a check of $50 or $100 directly to the canidates.
So I respectfully have to differ from our host.
