SDWC: Trying to get to the bottom of things....

There's been a bit of fussing on the blog in the past few days over the fact I noted that I "heard" that Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin might have taken her chief of staff with her on the Peolsi European Global warming tour.

Some demanded that I confirm it, some said the whole staff went, some acknowledged that I actually said "I heard it" and that's the only confirmation I had, and to take it with a grain of salt.

So, in order to remove the confusion, I dropped congresswoman Herseth's chief of staff a note to get to the bottom of it:
Tessa -

I'm trying to clear up some information that was passed along to me with regards to whether you, as Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin's Chief of Staff, accompanied her on her recent trip to Europe.

I keep hearing yes and no, and yet others ridiculously inflate the numbers into including many members of the Congresswoman's staff. I'm hoping you can provide me some accurate information.

Would this actually be correct, or is it simply political rumor? I would appreciate it if you could clarify this for me.

Thank you for your response.

Regards,

Pat Powers

I thought that summed it up directly and politely. While I might disagree with the Congresswoman from time to time, and point out where others might tease her, I do respect her, and she was certainly more than cordial to my wife when she was out visiting with her. So, I'd rather get it from the horses' mouth, so to speak.

At this point, I got an autoresponder from Tessa's e-mail ......
I am currently out of the country until June 5th and will not have access to messages. If you need immediate assistance, please contact the Sioux Falls office at 605-367-8371.
So, until I hear back, continue to take the report with a grain of salt.

Speaking of all of that, the leader of the trip, Nancy Pelosi had this to say about the junket that Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin participated with:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi today promised action this year on far-reaching global warming legislation that would mandate limits on greenhouse gas emissions while creating an incentive system for polluters to trade carbon credits.

Pelosi said she is coordinating with a half-dozen House committees on how to create an emissions “cap and trade” system that would offer economic incentives to reduce greenhouse gases.

“If a country is not willing to put forward a cap and trade legislation, it can’t be taken seriously” on global warming, said Pelosi, who spent part of the past week touring the declining arctic ice caps in Greenland.

Read that all here.

The Democrats are filling a void in leadership created by 6 years of Bush administration denial and/or inaction on energy and environmental policy. Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin is a player. Good work!

But free trips for staffers don't sit well, if that is what's going on. Maybe we'll find out.

scimitar - I hope your opinion about that "void in leadership" remains the same after the Democrats' global warming taxes double your electric rates and the price of gasoline hits $5/gallon, while producing ZERO environmental benefits.

When will people begin to realize that CO2-induced global warming is a total fabrication of government-funded scientists and liberal politicians bent on controlling people's lives?

The heat-trapping qualities of CO2 are logarithmic, meaning the more CO2 is added to the atmosphere, the less each additional molecule is able to trap heat. The theory of catastrophic global warming depends on water vapor feedback and other amplifiers that the alarmists claim will drive temperatures much higher.

But the fallacy of the whole argument is that scientists do NOT understand how clouds form or how water vapor and precipitation patterns will influence future climate. And the honest ones who don't depend on a government check will freely admit it.

"When will people begin to realize that CO2-induced global warming is a total fabrication of government-funded scientists and liberal politicians bent on controlling people's lives?"

Yikes. This sounds like more of a conspiracy theory than global warming itself.

Yeah, and buying carbon credits are the solution? Only for Gore and his bank account.

4:05 - Not so much a conspiracy as an apathetic citizenry lacking sufficient scientific understanding to question the political propaganda they are being forcefed by the liberal media and a politically driven, UN-sponsored science panel.

At some point, Americans need to care enough to reverse the doctrine of "truth by repetition" that seems to apply to the scare tactics of the anthropogenic global warming crowd.

arthur - Beware, you are way too well tuned into the Dem's game plan. It won't be long before the global warming mafia tries to silence you.

So Pelosi returned from the trip yesterday (according to the New York Times), and Herseth's Chief of Staff is out of the country until June 5th? Sounds like they were on a different trip. I'd bet she took the opportunity to get some R&R while the boss was away. If anything, your "proof" actually hurts those who assert that your claim is true.

Look at this left wing nut who claims global warming is a problem:

"“In recent years, science has deepened our understanding of climate change and opened new possibilities for confronting it,” Mr. Bush said in his speech, previewing the climate change package he will present when he meets the leaders of the Group of 8 industrialized nations in Germany next week. “The United States takes this issue seriously.”

-- Today's NY Times.

And now, he's actually flying over to Europe, at taxpayer expense, to talk to people about it. And he's taking a bunch of his staff with him. What nerve!

Maybe the liberals saw it work with Iraq (justify a war based on lies about WMD) so they figure it might work with this too?

So, is Greenland part of Europe or North America?

PP, you do realize that your wife looks almost exactly like Stephanie, especially the hair. Almost a mirror image, part on just the other side is all. Otherwise, they're darn near twins.

Tessa, congresswoman Herseth's chief of staff is out of the country, but she didn't go on Herseth's Greenland tour. She is at a wedding on her own dime. I don't know where you got the info she was with Herseth, but you should check your sources better.

I'm not a political insider like yourself, but it took me all of one phone call to find that out. So either you being dishonest and you know that is the case or your lazy.

It's funny, you won't "speculate on this one based on rumor" when it involves a republican faced with a long list of charges: eight counts of rape, two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of witness tampering, sexual contact with a person under 16, and stalking, but you have no problem posting what ever rumor someone sends you about Herseth as a fact.

If Ted Klaudt was a democrat would he have been given the same treatment? Given your history, I say no.

6:34 - What color is the sky in your world?

Please show me where I ever indicated it was the stone cold truth. I noted that the rumor was floating out there (as it was). If I recall, it was going beyond silly, so I dropped the chief of staff a note when I had a moment. And if she gets back to me, I'm happy to report the results.

So you're telling me what I should have done was to call and go "tell me, tell me, I have to know - did she accompany the Congresswoman?" Please.

To go to the level of a phone call and actually spend that kind of time chasing this down assumes that this somehow matters in the big scheme of things.

With regards to Ted Klaudt, if you didn't notice, I was one of the first to report on it, and provide the charging documents in their horrendous detail. And you're being critical that I'm not posting rumors on it?

I think most people would agree that there's a bit of a difference between speculating whether someone is going along with their boss on a junket, and speculating on the rape and sexual assault of minors.

If they're not to you? Well then, you have some serious problems that should cause you to investigate counseling.

Right. Someone holds PP's feet to the fire to back up his hysterical accusations when he knows they're false and he wants to send THEM to the shrink. Got it. Good one PP.

So, PP, what your saying is that you'll post a rumor emailed to you but you can't be bothered to pick up the phone and check to see if it is true? If it's not worth a phone call, because it doesn't matters in the big scheme of things, as you said in your comment, then why is it worth a post in your blog?
