Politicos to dedicate Stamps at Rally

I saw this item in my email box from a reader - it's not terribly political, but hey, it's close enough:

Sturgis Dedication of American Motorcycle Stamps
USPS Dedication Kicks of Rally

American Motorcycles

In early August, 85 million classic antique "American Motorcycles" stamps mirroring bikes owned by members of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America's Long Island Big Sandbar chapter will roll off the showroom floor of the nation's 37,000 Post Offices. Every one will be in mint condition and guaranteed to make it across the country for just 39 cents.

The stamps will be dedicated at 8:45 a.m., Monday, Aug. 7, in Sturgis, SD, just prior to the Mayor's ride to the Crazy Horse Memorial to kick-start the 66th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The ceremony will take place across the street from the Sturgis Post Office on the west side of the Community Center at 1401 Lazelle St.

Penny Nickerson's 1918 Cleveland, Larry Spielfogel's 1940 Indian Four and George Tsunis' 1965 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide® will be prominently displayed in front of a 10 foot enlargement of the stamp images. The circa 1970 Chopper is a computer generated image created by the stamp artist.

U.S. Postal Service Chief Marketing Officer Anita Bizzotto will emcee the event. James C. Miller, III, chairman of the presidentially-appointed Postal Service Board of Governors will dedicate the stamps. Also participating in the event will be South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds (R), Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD), U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth (D-SD), Sturgis Mayor Mark Zeigler and the Sturgis Honor Guard.
Read it all here. And if you need to get into the spirit of the Sturgis Rally, I can't recommend "The World's Fastest Indian" enough for your viewing.

Actually, I believe they premiered it at last years' rally. It got me into the spirit of considering climbing back on a motorcycle after a 25 year absence. But then again, my last soujurn on a motorcycle ended with 3 months in traction followed by another 6 in a cast. But I'm thinking about it again.

We need to privatize the US Postal Service. Why is the government better, much less more reliable/accountable, than the private sector to deliver mail? Delivering mail should not be a function of government.
