Foster daughters. I can't imagine doing this to a total stranger much less someone living in my home.

For Ted's sake, I hope he's innocent. Because if he isn't, for our sake, and the sake of these girls, the courts need to mete out a harsh justice.

How sad is this? Not only, for the sake of these kids that are involved, but also for mankind to have this kind of crime to deal with.

Isn't it time to realize that there are people out there, Reps. and Dems. that make mistakes and that some of these mistakes are so heinous that it defies imagination?

But beyond the extremity of this act, I wonder if it is time that we quit positioning ourselves to being the "moral judges of others". I served with Ted in the legislature and I will assure you that he was as far right (and moral) as you can get in his stands, hanging his hat on those moral issues in his campaigning.

I don't condone anyone from any party to do what he supposedly did, but what makes it even worse is when that someone takes the position of being from the moral right. How many book deals, drug abuses, divorces, cheating on spouses, gay relationships, child sexual abuse, and embezzlements, (the list goes on) from far right politicians and clergy do we need before we realize that no one on earth can stand up and preach that others are sinners? We all make mistakes and sin, thankfully not to the extreme of this case, by most people. The best we can do sometimes is worry about being ourselves a good and just person.

It is time to work to make this country and this state a better place, with morals and values instilled. But let's not forget that while we are standing up and judging others at the same time that we clandestinely sin ourselves, does society more harm than good when and if the truth comes out.

Through the years, I have seen my party turn so far right and so far morally right on all issues that we have lost sight of the whole picture.

He is one example from one party. No blanket statements can be made from this, however it is time for the Republican Party to question if we need to face the problems of this state and this country without preaching from the pulpit right all the while sinning in the dark---- regardless of Ted,s alleged actions.

If he's innocent? Have you seen the affidavit? They have evidence of the emails, they found a briefcase full of sex toys and speculums in his house, and he basically admitted to doing it. This is no Dan Sutton 'he said-he said.' Ted better start packing for the pen.

I think I am going to throw up!

OMG!!! I just looked up his picture!

This is just awful. If these alegations are true then he needs the harshest punishment that we can dish out.

So this is how the Conservative PAC works.

Will John Thune, Jerry Apa, and Bill Napoli be giving back the money that they recieved from Dr. Klaudt's PAC.

South Dakota meet your Neo-Con value holders

Every single liberal who comments and compares what this guy did with conservative Republican values is scum. EVERY SINGLE person who reads these allegations feels sick - Republican and Democrat. To try to smear someone like Brock Greenfield or John Thune on this issue is completely out of line and shows how immature and petty liberals can be. To those who think that this proves how wrong social conservative positions are, such as 2:30, keep living in your dream world. One allegdly deranged individual does not change facts.

He admitted to it! Read the full report from Long...

There are some eerie connections between Klaudt's service in the legislature, rape, teenage girls, and foster care.

Most obvious, Klaudt was a strong proponent of denying victims of rape access to abortion. Most voters in South Dakota recognized the lack of compassion in denying victims of rape this option. As a rapist, Klaudt clearly had no compassion for victims of rape.

I also remember that Klaudt showed up unannounced at Plankington prior to the Gina Score death and asked to interview some of the girls imprisoned there. The guards let him in. Janklow was furious, as I recall, but it now seems a little odd that Klaudt shows up to the girls detention facility unannounced and demanded access.

But even worse, Klaudt, as a legislator, oversaw the Foster Care system. He chaired meetings of the Government Operations and Audit Committee on the DSS Division of Child Protection's administration of Foster Care. I hope to God that some bureaucrat didn't sit on any complaints about Klaudt because of his position in the legislature. At a minimum, there ought to be a complete and thorough review of his files to make sure that he wasn't given any special treatment given the oversight role he had over DSS. If I were Rounds, I'd conduct a thorough investigation.

And finally, I was shocked to hear that he still hasn't been taken into custody. He's allowed to walk out of the Sherriff's Office and just drive himself up to Pierre? I sincerely doubt that if Klaudt weren't a former elected official, he would have been woken by the Sherriff - guns drawn - cuffed, stuffed and locked up. At this point, he's not even out on bail. Given the severity of the charges, that's unconscionable. Long ought to have demanded that he be arrested like any other common criminal.

Ted Klaudt is scum. Not because he's a Republican, but because he's a rapist. The lack of compassion he showed to vulnerable kids in the foster care system is truly horrific.

There is only one person who aligns the politics of family values with the actions of a lunatic sex abuser. He stands accused of using his power as a legislator, a man of tremendous size and his status as foster parent to exploit youths for his sexual kinks. You know his name. Don't shame others for stating the obvious.

I also am surprised that he is not in custody, but perhaps he is by now. After reading AG Long's Affidavit, I would expect that authorities would put Mr. Klaudt on suicide watch. Jack, the stuff about the Plankinton visit and the Foster Care involvement is indeed bizarre, but then the acts which are detailed in the affidavit are bizarre beyond words.

I have no respect for the politics of Senator Thune and Senator Napoli, but it is completely over the top to use guilt by assocation. Either one of them would have turned him in in a heartbeat if they any inkling of this stuff.

I think if one had to draw a generalization about this, the one to draw would be that the sex education that these girls received was woefully inadequate if they thought this was somewhere near normal. The legislature may want to re-think its reactionary conservative rejection of anything but abstinence.

The report said he admitted to crossing a line. First, he may not have admitted this. Yes, state's attorneys also lie. Second, we don't know exactly what he admitted to. We need to presume innocence until he has had a trial or takes a plea.

The courts need to presume innocence, and they will. We don't have to. If we did we'd all think OJ didn't kill Nicole.

The real scandal here is with the Argus Leader. Their reporters knew about this for weeks yet never reported anything. They were clearly protecting the Republicans.

If you want to elevate the status of mankind, turn off your anonymous comments again. It is difficult enough to comprehend what this man did, but it just as difficult to grasp why people would make comments of such vicious, perverse nature.

There are some things that need to be brought into line. First, his appearance doesn't matter and to inject it into this conversation only diminishes the true gravity of what may have happened. Second, for alberta to drag Brock Greenfield's name into this is a shame. Brock Greenfield is a good man who shows concern and compassion for all people. You might disagree with his politics, but that doesn't mean you should lump him in with this man in this situation. That is similar to Sen. Johnson discussing the Taliban wing of the Republican Party, that kind of rhetoric has no place in a civil discourse. Same goes for the right, when we insult the left. We need to get our acts together and realize that it doesn't always boil down to politics. Yes, it is in this realm because he is a former legislator, but does it make it worse than if he had been a teacher, doctor, waitress, or bellhop? No, the result and tragedy are the same.

I see on another one of the War College articles about Klaudt a blog letter from former Rapid City Senator Stan Adelstein about something called he Peanut Caucus that Klaudt ran. Does anyone else know about this? Who went to those meetings? Did Larry Rhoden or the Speaker Diedrich (who said in the AP article, that he was in court with Klaudt as a FRIEND!!)?

I bet that Napoli went there, if they had meetings. Who knows about it?

Some FRIENDS to have! What has happened to the Republican Party - that used to mean a Party for the individual RIGHTS - NOT WRONGS.

To Doubting RC Woman,

>>Does anyone else know about this?<<

Believe me, DRCW, many, many people know about the questionable behavior of haning out in Ft. Pierre, holding the Peanut Caucus, and god knows what other kinds of frat-boy antics in Pierre. The thing is, this state has a long shameful history (and getting worse the farther right we get) of secretive meetings and midnight manipulations...and I'm not just talking about Klaudt's history of providing unwanted and abusive medical exams! Many people know about our legisltor's antics, have either participated in them, or have condoned them through failure to expose the shenanigans.

Sorry, DRCW, but please don't be so naive. You're starting to sound like vulnerable and abused teenage girls who can be convinced by some out-of-control zealot that they can manually wash eggs out of uteruses for sale to the highest bidder.

Is this what that other guy was talking about (so unimportant to me that I can't remember his name) when he basically said that women are like cows, they're only valuable when they can be bred?
