Americans for Prosperity launching Taxpayer Trust Tour

According to the Pierre Capitol Journal, on Wednesday, Americans for Prosperity will be launching a six city Taxpayer Trust Tour across South Dakota to garner recommendations for the 2007 legislature.
Stops include:

Sioux Falls (Noon, Wed at old courthouse museum)
Mitchell (5pm, Wed at Public Library)
Aberdeen (Noon, Thursday at Pizza Ranch)
Watertown (5pm, Thursday at 2nd Street Station)
Rapid City (Noon, Friday at Public Library)
Pierre (Noon, Monday location TBA)
I'll have a further report if I can make the Pierre event. Stay tuned.

They arrived in SD a few weeks before the Nov election, and took positions on several ballot issues.
All without taxpayer input or even talking to sponsors of the measures.

If this tour is genuine concern for the taxpayer,GOOD, but I have my doubts. I still think they are financed by the tobacco companies and I bet their focus will be to reduce the tobacco tax, despite the fact the taxpayers have spoken.

There are so many lobbyists out there begging legislators for money here and money there for pet projects. I think it's good that AFP wants to give the taxpayers a voice.

When our state spending goes up so do our property taxes. If AFP advocates responsible spending we need more people doing the same.

Quit crying wolf and see what it is about.

AFP is a phony taxpayer organization. It's based in Washington D.C. and feeds on federal grant money-your tax dollars.

The last few years they have busied themselves with establishing state chapters that are associating themselves with the state Chambers of Commerce. This can only be seen as an effort to lobby state legislatures for big business interests under the guise of representing the individual taxpayer.

Why would we want Americas Foniest People to give us a voice. They need to trick you into supporting them to cloak themselves in legitimacy. No, we don't need a middleman. We send our voice to Pierre and Washington every November 7th.

This is a classic example of the ignorance on tax issues that we are burdoned with.

The state doesn't get a DIME of property taxes. State spending has NO effect on property taxes. They are for education, counties and cities.

South Dakotains would do well to tell these carpet baggers to go back to Washington and send our money back instead.

AFP is saying that state spending has been growing faster than people's paycheck over the past few years.

If AFP wants to pass taxpayer concerns onto legislators and the Governor why are you trying to discourage them Uncle Milt?

We should encourage more taxpayer participation in the legislative process. It is our money they are spending.

It's not rocket science. I think AFP is advocating for common sense

When they hold the special session (supposedly at the end of November) , since he's left them already, I think his colleagues should expel him from the caucus. Sure. It's about health, not potential promiscuity.

As the only South Dakota blogger out with 5 daughters, I feel I need to weigh in on the whole discussion that's occurring with regards to the HPV vaccine, and Governor Rounds' proposal to make it available. My family (including my three oldest girls) watched my mom, their grandmother, succumb slowly and painfully to cancer which spread throughout her body. If a similar fate from a different type of cancer was preventable through a simple shot, why wouldn't anyone advocate for it? At the age most of my kids are going to be getting it, they're still playing with barbies, and negative influences such as most of the programming on MTV, and other assorted trashy television is verboten in my house. All they're going to know about this vaccination is that it's a shot, just like for teatnus or measles. They'll go "Ow, I don't want a shot," and that will be it. Just another mark on their vaccination record. One check box for DPT, one for HPV, and so on
