Rounds may not be the best speaker but we can be proud of our Capitol Building, it is one beautiful building.

I thought Rounds did a nice job today. It was moving at times and well done. But you see what you want to see.

He gives the same speech EVERY SINGLE TIME. And they're so poorly delivered: awkwardly long dramatic pauses; that airy, raspy voice; the ridiculous overuse of the phrase "thank you"; the Clinton-esque fake almost-weeping when he was talking about fallen soldiers. It was so hard to listen to. I was embarrassed.

When they call you "left wing nuts" they are sure correct....you are NUTS!

Governor Rounds was sincere and showed true emotions when speaking of the death of that young man from Parkston.

Sit down some time and ask him what it is like talking to the parents and other family members of soldiers killed in Iraq! Governor Rounds has had to do that way too many times the past few years. It is really difficult time for Governor Rounds and the soldier’s family. And then when he recalls the moment you claim he is faking the emotion he displays?

The only fake around here is you and the other left wing nuts!

I am a very staunch conservative and I think the Gov. gives terrible speeches. You dont have to be a wingnut to think so. Rounds cadence is so unnatural that its very hard to listen to him, and some of what he says comes off as fake. I dont know if it's the Gov.'s fault or whoever helps write his speeches, but Rounds also has a habit of repeating himself. He is just a horrible public speaker. I don't know if I have ever heard him give a speech that didn't at some point make me cringe.

As the only South Dakota blogger out with 5 daughters, I feel I need to weigh in on the whole discussion that's occurring with regards to the HPV vaccine, and Governor Rounds' proposal to make it available. My family (including my three oldest girls) watched my mom, their grandmother, succumb slowly and painfully to cancer which spread throughout her body. If a similar fate from a different type of cancer was preventable through a simple shot, why wouldn't anyone advocate for it? At the age most of my kids are going to be getting it, they're still playing with barbies, and negative influences such as most of the programming on MTV, and other assorted trashy television is verboten in my house. All they're going to know about this vaccination is that it's a shot, just like for teatnus or measles. They'll go "Ow, I don't want a shot," and that will be it. Just another mark on their vaccination record. One check box for DPT, one for HPV, and so on...

(Click on picture to enlarge) This fundraising letter is making the rounds across South Dakota. This one is from Sioux Falls, but I've also seen a few people in Pierre who have gotten it (an attorney or two). I've got to say that without a doubt this is one of the worst fundraising letters I've run across this year. It's not just that it says "Dear friends." Bleaugh. It's not just that it doesn't ask for an amount and you can barely tell that it's a fundraising letter. It's an entire letter of poison prose. Here's the basic structure of the letter - you tell me if you'd send her some money on the basis of it's content: Introduction Complain Complain Complain Vote for me Oh, there's also an envelope enclosed for some vague purpose.
